Athletics

The Athletic Program offers a varied and extensive experience for students.

Insurance and Other Requirements
All students who are interested in interscholastic sports must be fully covered by a minimum of $1,500 medical insurance as required by state law. If the athlete doesn’t have his/her own private insurance policy, he/she may purchase one through the Athletic Director’s office. All athletes must have a medical examination and meet eligibility standards
(see Section “0”).

League Competition
South High is a member of the Pioneer League. The following sports are offered: baseball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, cross country, football, boys’ and girls’ golf, ice and roller hockey, boys’ and girls’ soccer, softball, surfing, swimming, boys’ and girls’ tennis, track, boys’ and girls’ volleyball, and wrestling.

Athletic Letters and Awards
Athletes are encouraged to participate in one or more sports. At the close of each sport’s season, team members who have fulfilled certain requirements will be awarded a school letter, insert, and/or certificate. To be eligible for an athletic letter, a student must:

  1. Receive the recommendation of the coach.
  2. Attend and participate as directed by the coach in all sessions unless absent from school.
  3. Purchase an ASB card.
  4. Be academically eligible.
